Sand Blast Weekend kicks off in Asbury Park, N.J., with three days and nights of fun in the sun. It all starts with gay volleyball (2 p.m.) on the Sixth Avenue Beach followed by a “Lost at Sea” party (8 p.m.) at Convention Hall with music by DJ Mark Anthony and Whitney Day.

The Philadelphia Museum of Art’s “Art After 5” features Qrquesta La Paz (5 p.m.).

Making Time is at The Festival Pier at Penn’s Landing (5 p.m.).

Tavern on Camac favorite Deena Underwood plays at SugarHouse Casino (5:30 p.m.) with Eddie Bruce and The Tom Adams Trio.

David W. Ross receives the Rising Film Star Award at QFest (7:15 p.m.) at the Ritz East. The openly gay actor is well-known for his roles in Quinceanero and Echo Park. He also penned the semi-autobiographical I Do, about the challenges bi-national gay couples face today – it screens at the event.

Penn Jersey Roller Derby presents Dishonor Roll (7:30 p.m.) with the Afterschool Specials against the Trauma Queens and Suicide Kings at Carmen Gardens.

Michael Ferrari plays the Oak Room at The Raven (9 p.m.) in New Hope, followed by a dance party with DJ Armando (10 p.m.).

Dance to the music of DJ Zathan Radix (10 p.m.) at Resorts in Atlantic City, N.J.

This month’s Stimulus gets wet with Plunge (10 p.m.), a pool party at North Shore Beach Club to benefit QFest. Think bikinis – lots and lots of bikinis.

Saturday, July 21

Sand Blast in Asbury Park, N.J., continues with yoga on the Sixth Avenue Beach (7:30 a.m.) and the “Siren of the Sea” women’s pool party (10 a.m.) with Susan Levine at the Berkeley Oceanfront Hotel pool. Lady Marisa hosts the Drag Race and Hand Bag Toss (11:30 a.m.) on Sunset Beach. Then there’s the SandBlast beach party (noon) on Sunset Beach and the Aqua Bar. Later in the evening, it’s all about “Deep Blue” (10 p.m.) at the Berkeley Oceanfront Hotel with a Clever Underwear Party with the men of Maverick, and “Wet” (9 p.m.), a women’s dance party at Aqua Bar.

Duross & Langel hosts a Yards Beer Tasting (1 p.m.).

Rose Troche is honored with QFest’s 2012 Artistic Achievement Award (4:45 p.m.) at Ritz East. The director is best known for her classic lesbian film Go Fish. She also directed Showtime’s The L Word and is working on a follow up to her famous flick. Enjoy an Evening at Stephanie’s (7 p.m.), a formal photography gala opening with live music and food at the Stephanie Nolt Photography Studio.

The Philadelphia Trans March presents the P.U.M.P. Fashion Show (7 p.m.) at AxD Gallery with a post-show party Transcend.

Sisters hosts the QFest after-party for the movie A Perfect Ending (8 p.m.) with special celebrity guests.

Get a sneak peek at GayFest and mingle with the actors during the LGBT theatre festival’s opening party (8 p.m.) at Tabu.

GayStock Philadelphia takes over the Broad Street Ministries with artists and performers making a statement against bullying (8 p.m.). Performers include Tony Enos, Phil “Insane P” Cason, Oliver Chris and Jenario. Louie Ortiz and DeAngelo Cameron will also be honored for their work in the community.

It’s the Libertine Ball at Shampoo (9 p.m.). This year’s theme? Intergalactic Asylum.

The I Love Philly all-women’s indoor/outdoor party is at Mikey’s Sports Bar in West Philly (10 p.m.).

ICandy hosts Project Go-Go Boy (11 p.m.) with the Cocky Boys’ Jake Bass and Max Ryder as part of QFest.

It’s also all about the Go-Go boys at Resorts in Atlantic City, N.J. (11 p.m.).

Sunday, July 22

Sand Blast in Asbury Park, N.J., gets the day started with yoga on the Sixth Avenue Beach (9:30 a.m.), followed by a women’s jazz brunch (10 a.m.) at Tim McLoone’s Asbury Grill. There’s also a “Surfer Girl” beach tea dance (11 a.m.) at Aqua Lounge with DJ Whitney Day, and a “Riptide” pool party and tea dance (11 a.m.) at the Berkeley Oceanfront Hotel pool with DJs Corey Craig, Steve Sidewalk and Drew G. The Sand Blast Tea Dance (5 p.m.) closes out the weekend – also at the Berkeley.

QFest hosts a film talk at Triumph Brewing Company (4 p.m.) with the women of Stimulus, The Nash Experience and Leeway Foundation. Joe Ippolito and Suze Nash will discuss trans images in media.

Ellen Ratner receives the Barbara Gittings Award at QFest (4:30 p.m.) with a pre-screening power mix and mingle (2:30 p.m.) at Monkey Bar.

After a day at the pool, sing a little karaoke at The Raven in New Hope (8:30 p.m.).

QFest celebrates this year’s film festival with a closing night party (9:30 p.m.) at SugarHouse Casino following the screening of BearCity 2: The Proposal. The after-after party is at the Bike Stop (11:30 p.m.) with the Liberty Bears.
