Coming Out: Shara Dae

A local lesbian talks about self acceptance on I'm From Driftwood

Shara Dae always knew she was different. When she moved to Philly she visited The Attic Youth Center. At the time, she was still a teenager and the LGBT youth organization was small – she met only a few other gay teens there. But in many ways, the experience would help shape her identity for years to come.

“I felt a part of the community,” says Dae, now in her 30s, in a video for I’m From Driftwood – which celebrates the black LGBT experience during Black History Month. “And I thought, you know, I’m a part of the gay community, I’m feeling stronger about who I am.”
