It’s Christmas in Paris

A special event on Friday benefits The Attic Youth Center

Brittany Lynn, one of our favorite drag stars about town, is hosting a very special event on Friday (Dec. 16) to benefit The Attic Youth Center (6 p.m.) at Tavern on Camac (TOC). The happy hour cabaret – billed as Christmas in Paris – combines drag with a live piano performance by Peter Kidd for the gender-bending, music-loving Francophile in all of us.

“It being a holiday month, we decided to spread some cheer for a great cause,” says Brittany Lynn (real name Ian Morrison). “I’m glad The Attic Youth Center was chosen as the beneficiary. With teens coming out earlier and earlier in life, and gay life being broadcasted in all media forms, I  think people sometimes forget coming out and accepting yourself as a gay person is still a hard process – no matter how many Will & Grace shows fill the airwaves. There will always be a need for a place like The Attic Youth Center and for what it does for coming-out teens.”

The event also shakes up classic French Martinis (think Stoli O and Lillet). And for every drink purchased, TOC donates to the Attic. A $35 pre-fixe French dinner is also available downstairs at Terra (and again, for every dinner purchased between 5 and 11 p.m., the Attic receives a donation). There’s also a cash and prize raffle starting at 9 p.m. in the Ascend Lounge. Oui oui!

An Eiffel Tower Cake also sweetens the deal, with an official slicing – fake eyelashes and all – at 7:30 p.m. These “Cakes By Nancy” will also be available just in time for the next holiday soiree (and, yep, buy a cake and a donation will be made to the Attic).

“It is important to acknowledge that the holidays bring up a lot of issues for many  people – and in particular, for LGBTQ youth,” says Alyssa Mutryn of The Attic. “Some do not have strong family connections and the holidays may bring up the fact that they are estranged from their biological family. This can be traumatic and emotional when everyone is talking about going home for the holidays.”

So every year The Attic creates a holiday experience for these young people. “We encourage youth to seek out these services,” says Mutryn.

Christmas in Paris, Dec. 16, 9 p.m., Tavern on Camac, 243 S. Camac St., 215-545-0900.
