G Philly to Live-Tweet the Oscars

Follow us @G_Philly for the best, worst and gayest moments during Sunday's show

Next to the Tony’s, the Oscars is probably one of the gayest awards shows on television. That’s why we’ll be live tweeting all the highs and lows on Feb. 27 from Stir’s Academy Awards party (starting at 8 p.m.). If you follow us on Twitter @G_Philly, you’ll get the inside scoop on what everyone’s wearing, saying and winning in real-time as hunky James Franco and Ann Hathaway host this year’s star-studded fete.

And if you’re looking for a place to watch (and gossip) with other celeb-obsessed LGBT folks, please stop by Stir’s Rolling Out the Red Carpet dressed as your favorite movie from this year’s 10 best picture nominees. There are plenty to choose from featuring no less than a stuttering king, a deranged swan, two lesbian moms, a couple of cowboys and the revenge of the Facebook nerds. Best costumes win Stir gift cards. There will also be prizes for those who predict the Academy Award winners in advance.

We can’t wait to see if Annette Bening wins for her portrayal of a lesbian mom in the modern family dramedy The Kids Are Alright (the film’s lesbian director Lisa Cholodenko is also nominated for best screenplay, while sperm donor-playing pop Mark Ruffalo is up for best supporting actor). Another gay highlight is sure to include John Cameron Mitchell (Hedwig and Shortbus), who directed – somewhat surprisingly – leading actress nominee Nicole Kidman in the dark stage-play-to-feature-film Rabbit Hole.
