Friday Saturday Sunday: Cocktails and dining

Yesterday marked the rebirth of Friday Saturday Sunday off of Rittenhouse Square. But it is only the name that returns after the 18-month redo. The first floor is now where the bar action happens. A 14-seat marble bar pops in bright white. On opening night, bartender Paul MacDonald was already confidently pouring cocktails like the Oxford Comma, Nicaraguan rum, lemon, coffee, red wine and soda; and the Control State, vodka, lime, grapefruit, honey and savory bitters.

The food is prepared by chef/owner and Garces vet, Chad Williams. The menu features a selection of raw bar items, pastas, a sizeable vegetable section and four entrees topping out at $39 for the New York Strip. The most buzzed about dish of the people we talked to was by far, the beef tartare. Williams is joined by his wife Hanna Whitaker, another Garces pro who handles the front of the house and upstairs dining room. Gone is the fish tank, replaced by an equally romantic space adorned with murals and picturesque views of 21st Street.

Friday Saturday Sunday serves dinner on those nights as well as Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The bar opens at 3 p.m. and dinner service begins at 5.
