A healthy lunch from Beefsteak

World-renowned chef Jose Andres makes his debut in Philadelphia by bringing his vegetarian, fast-food concept, Beefsteak to the University of Pennsylvania campus in early 2016.

Beefsteak – a name with a twist for a vegetable heavy menu – offers a selection of veggie bowls from original, chef-inspired combinations or simply made to order. The main ingredient here is the vegetables that showcase the seasons, as well as, year-round favorites. Beefsteak’s veggie bowls offer a variety of combinations prepared in a flash and blanched to order.

Create your own bowl by choosing a choice of grain, house-made sauce, fresh-cooked vegetables, then top it off with meat if you’d like; or try an item like the “Gazpacho Bowl,” topped with romaine, scallions, olive-oil and veggies; or “Frida Kale,” made with rice, pumpkin seeds, cranberries, scallions, corn nuts, cherry tomatoes, kale, black bean sauce and spicy tomato sauce.

Options for meatier toppings range from a choice of poached egg, salt-cured salmon or roast chicken. Beefsteak’s menu also includes fresh house-made juices, sodas and seasonal items like sandwiches and salads. As the chef and owner of ThinkFoodGroup, Andres has popular dining destinations all over the world. Beefsteak, Andres’ fast casual concept is also located at Dupont Circle and George Washington University in Washington D.C.

The Beefsteak on Penn’s campus will be located in Houston Hall at 3417 Spruce Street, accessible to University students and employees plus Philadelphia at large.
