Get Social With Cider In New Jersey

Sometimes you’ve just had enough beer, right? You’ve drunk all the good stuff, the weird stuff, the low-rent stuff. Whiskey and gin just don’t seem right for the moment and you’re certainly not going to switch to wine. So what do you turn to in your hour of alcoholic need?

Cider.

Ever true to his pioneering spirit, the producer of the massive Atlantic City Beer and Music Festival is bringing the first cider fest to Jersey. On August 8, Jon Henderson of Good Time Tricycle will host two sessions of the inaugural Atlantic City Cider Social.

With a nod to the breaking-all-expectations popularity of cider (and to a lesser extent, mead), Henderson is showcasing 30 cider and mead makers, from artisanal to corporate, and doing so in a down-homey environment that includes activities like apple-bobbing, dancing to live folk bands and eating slices of apple pie at tables covered in red-and-white checkered tablecloths. There will also be food trucks, vendors and a seminar on cider mixology led by the guys behind Bar Alchemy.

The festival will be held outside on the water at Caspian Point, next to Gardiner’s Basin. Sessions run from 12-4 pm and 7-11pm, with no VIP sessions. Tickets cost $45 in advance and $50 at the door. Designated driver tickets sell for $15 at the door.
