The folks at Bar Hygge (pronounced hoo-ga) have given us an on update on their upcoming full service neighborhood brewpub and restaurant. Construction, headed by Canno Architecture and Design, will start in the next few weeks, setting the bar up for an October opening in the Fairmount Spring Garden neighborhood (1720 Fairmount).

The bar, a collaboration between two couples–Stew and Julie Keener of Baggataway Tavern, and Tom Baker and Peggy Zwerver of Earth Bread & Breweryhopes to be a great community spot focused on good beers and wines. And its name, Hygge (a Danish word most closely translated to “cozy camaraderie”, essentially “sharing drinks with friends”), promises just that.

Drink offerings will include wine on tap and in the bottle, cocktails, house-made beer and guest taps. Beers will be brewed by Tom Baker (Brewery Techne) and there will be 6 house beers with 4 rotating guest beers.

Food, which will exist to highlight the beers and wines, will be seasonally focused with large and small plates. Still on the hunt for a chef, the owners can’t give us much beyond that concept.

On weekdays, the bar/ restaurant will open at 4 pm. On weekends they’ll open a bit earlier for brunch.
