It’s Oyster Day: A Made Up Holiday We Can Get Behind

We’ve been keeping track of National Oyster Day happenings. There’s the big four-course dinner at Oyster House and of course the $100 for 100 oysters, a bottle of Champagne and hotel room in Chestnut Hill. But now that the big day is here, there are other deals around town.

A.bar (pictured) on Rittenhouse Square is offering $1.50 oysters all day.

Pennsylvania 6 is offering Malpeque Oysters from Prince Edward Island for just a dollar all day and night. Chef Marc Plessis is also adding four flavorful, oyster-inspired specials for the day, including: Kentucky Fried Oysters, served with hot and sour sauce; Oysters Rockefeller, with lemon and garlic herb crust; Oyster Corn Chowder, with Yukon potato, charred scallion and smoked paprika; and Oyster Carbinarra, with garlic, parsley, chili, Benton bacon and egg served over chitarra pasta.

Headhouse Crab and Oyster House is getting into the spirit with dollar oysters all day. The South Street bar is discounting its prosecco to $5 a glass.

Doc Magrogan’s University City location has 28 different oysters available today and 20 of them are available for a buck each.
