TONIGHT: Free Beer at Brauhaus Schmitz

brauhaus-schmitz-liters-400Tonight, Brauhaus Schmitz is celebrating “Tag des Bieres” or German Beer Day. It is the anniversary of the Reinheitsgebot, the historic document that set definition of what beer is.

At 6 p.m., the the Brauhaus crew will be tapping a firkin of Mahr’s Hellerbock and giving that away for free. After that, it’s $15 liters of beer, where you get to keep the over-sized mug.

I thought it was illegal to give away alcohol in PA

    • charlie

I’ll correct myself, your allowed to give away

A standard-size alcoholic beverage is twelve (12) fluid ounces of a malt or brewed beverage, four (4) fluid ounces of wine (including fortified wine) and one and one-half (1½) fluid ounces of liquor. [40 Pa. Code § 13.53].

While licensees may provide one (1) “free” drink per customer per day under these circumstances, licensees are prohibited from providing or allowing the provision of alcoholic beverages to persons younger than twenty-one (21) or who are visibly intoxicated. [47 P.S. § 4-493(1)].

Therefore, in accordance the information set forth above, a retail licensee is permitted to serve one (1) “free” alcoholic beverage per customer per day.
