Weird Beer Alert: Hitachino Anbai Plum On Tap At Zama

For only the second time in Philly (and one of the very few times in the US entirely), Hitachino Anbai plum beer is showing up on a tap list. This weekend, Zama will be tapping the one small keg they were able to get their hands on and, odds are, it isn’t going to last longer than a couple days.

So what is this stuff? It’s Hitachino Nest white ale (already a rarity) that has been doctored with Japanese plums picked from Hitachino owner, Toshiyuki Kiuchi’s, private orchard. The plums spend six months soaking in the beer, then a little bit of natural sea salt is added to finish this strange, salty/sour wheat beer.

So if you’re one of those people who just can’t resist bragging about the rare and unusual beers you’ve tried, this is a can’t-miss event. The Hitachino Anbai plum is on tap now and will only be around for this weekend.
