Metropolitan Bakery Is Closing

The Metropolitan Bakery in Chestnut Hill is in countdown mode right now–they’re shutting the doors on Friday after a 15-year run according to the good folks over at Chestnut Hill Local.

All is not lost, though. Word is, the bakery will be opening a stand at the Chestnut Hill Farmers Market. No date for that has been announced yet.

I used to go to the one in University City whenever I went grocery shopping – it was awesome. Now I live in Mt Airy, and I noticed that the Chestnut Hill branch was distinctly less awesome – they just didn’t ever seem to have nearly as much stuff. Pity, especially since there are at least three other bakeries nearby (Night Kitchen, Baker Street, Bredenbecks).
