Best Soup in Philadelphia Restaurants

Earlier this week we provided you our crowd-sourced guide to the best soup lunches in Philadelphia. And now we’re back with our list of the best soup in restaurants. You might not go to these restaurants for just the soup (Cheu Noodle Bar and South Philadelphia Taproom might be the exceptions), but you’d be wise to order soup as one of your courses.

Cheu Noodle Bar
255 S 10th Street

You can have a great meal at Cheu Noodle Bar without having a sip of broth. But something would still be missing. And that would be the brisket and matzo ball amalgamation.

Cuba Libre
10 S 2nd Street

The must order dish at Old City’s Cuba Libre is the Sopa Levanta Muerto, seafood soup.

Fond
1537 S 11th Street

The foie gras soup at Fond is lick the bowl good. Just have your dining partner create a distraction while you lap up the last bits.

Friday Saturday Sunday
261 S 21st Street

Dating back to Philadelphia’s first restaurant renaissance, Friday Saturday Sunday’s cream of mushroom soup still satisfies today.

In Riva
4116 Ridge Avenue

One of the most mentioned soups in our crowdsourcing was the pea soup from Arthur Cavaliere’s East Falls restaurant.

My Thai
2200 South Street

Another classic menu item that received plenty of thumbs up, the My Thai Soup from the 22nd and South Street stalwart. The soup is tomatoes blended with cod fish in coconut curry and then topped with homemade garlic croutons and scallions.

North Third
801 N 3rd Street

The tomato soup is always excellent at N. 3rd, but the Vermont cheddar grilled cheese is what puts it over the top.

Parc
227 South 18th Street

It’s all about the cheese in Parc’s French Onion Soup. But of course, that’s what it’s supposed to be about.

Rouge
201 S 18th Street

Looking to warm up on Rittenhouse Square, the spicy duck soup at Rouge does the trick every time.

Sang Kee
238 S 9th Street

The Roasted Pork Wonton soup at Sang Kee puts all other wonton soups to shame.

Sbraga
440 S Broad Street

Did you know we have former Eagle Winston Justice to thank for Kevin Sbraga’s foie gras soup? It’s true, and thank you Winston.

South Philadelphia Tap Room
1509 Mifflin Street

The tomato lager soup at SPTR comes with a three cheese grilled cheese. It could be enough for lunch but we always order more, because why not?

Standard Tap
901 North 2nd Street

The chalkboard menu changes daily, but chances are you should be ordering the soup.

Supper
926 South Street

At Mitch Prensky’s South Street restaurant, the butternut squash soup is king.

Tinto
114 S 20th Street

The Sopa De Castaña or truffled chestnut soup is a little bit of heaven in a bowl.

Vedge
1221 Locust Street

The funky kimchee stew with grilled broccoli is the current soup crush coming out of Vedge’s kitchen. But if that vegan ramen goes back on the menu, the kimchee may have to take a back seat.
