This Weekend: Scrapplefest At Reading Terminal Market

Pork roll has its place, but Pennsylvania is for scrapple lovers. The state is even in the shape of it! So celebrate your love for our hometown mystery meat at Reading Terminal Market’s annual Scrapplefest, happening this Saturday, November 2nd  from 10:00 to 4:00pm. Deitz & Watson, Hatfield Quality Meats, Godshall’s, Habbersett,  Leidy’s and (my personal favorite) Stryker Farms, will each be offering samples of their scrapple, griddled to perfection. Then at 2:00 a panel of judges including the inimitable Drew Lazor, Where magazine’s Laura Burkhardt, and writer-emeritus Rick Nichols of the Inquirer will taste dishes prepared by Reading Terminal Market vendors to determine the winner of a 3D pig plaque.

Rumor has it that entries are heavily of the scrapple-egg-and-cheese variety, but you might also see scrapple panzanella or mahi mahi scrapple hushpuppies. Let’s hope that they come with ketchup AND maple syrup.
