Great news for caffeine addicts and returning students in University City: Joe Coffee officially opened its new location on Drexel’s campus. “Joe Chestnut” is the first business to open in Drexel’s Chestnut Square complex, though Shake Shack is getting close.

In addition to Joe brand coffee, the bi-level shop is offering local food coming from Aimee Olexy’s Talula’s Daily, pastries, muffins, scones and cookies arriving every day from the flagship Ovenly bakery in Brooklyn.

For the first week of the Talula’s Daily partnership, Joe Coffee will be serving:

Talula’s Artichoke Focaccia, made with artichoke salad, olives, mozzarella, pesto, lemon dressing and housemade rosemary focaccia bread

Talula’s Turkey Focaccia: turkey, Swiss, cranberry mayo and housemade rosemary focaccia bread

Talula’s Superfood Salad: kale, cabbage, almonds, blueberries, quinoa and pomegranate dressing (vegan and gluten free)

The modern Chestnut Square location has two levels of seating for about 30 people. It will be open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays.

Really? Frozen fries and custard flavored with coffee is what we are offering in University City? Hey, Franklin Fountain and Bassetts! Why don’t you open a branch in University City and show the students what a real shake tastes like? Philly does better shakes than this slick corporate chain with half its butterfat tied behind it’s back! :-)
