Drinking Beer On The Battleship New Jersey

It’s not that you can’t drink Dogfish Head, Firestone Walker or Oskar Blues at other beer festivals. You can–or at least at the really good ones. But you can’t drink these top brands at other beer fests on battleships – in the Mid-Atlantic, anyway – and that’s the difference between tomorrow’s third-annual MGK Brew Blast and other events: awesome beer in an awesome location.

As home to the Brew Blast and the annual Garden State Craft Brewers’ Guild fest, the Battleship New Jersey, berthed on the Camden waterfront, has gotten semi-popular for beer fests. While both are cool (and really, how can a beer festival on the Navy’s most decorated battleship not be?), MGK brings in beer from around the country while the brewers guild highlights New Jersey brews. Both get you a free tour and all the samples you can drink.

The fest tomorrow runs from 1-5 and costs $45. You can buy tickets at the door, and there will of course be a classic-rock band playing so you can sample more than 50 beers to the beat of the MGK house band.

There are a ton of beer festivals tomorrow, between this, Sippin on the River, and the myriad of Oktoberfests. Sucks that they are all on the same day

How many beer festivals can you go to? Other than Oktoberfest having seasonal beers…and the Battleship New Jersey’s earlier in the season NJcentric brewery fest….the festivals are pretty much all the same….same breweries…mostly the same food and same people! The only real difference is whether they’re for profit or for a good cause.

Take your $45 to $75 and drive to a certain liquor store just below Newark and buy yourself 36 single bottles of great beer…some of which aren’t available in PA.

Tip: Get of at Newark (not Elktion, MD) and save yourself $8 in tolls!
