Brooklyn’s Calexico Is Coming to South Street West

1600-south

Calexico out of Brooklyn is coming to Philadelphia. The Californian/Mexican border restaurant is opening at 1600 South Street. Jesse Vendley and his brothers came from Southern California and joined forces with New York chef Peter Oleyer to launch a Calexico food cart before the food truck craze really took off. Now the Calexico team has four restaurants and three carts in Manhattan and Brooklyn.

The 1600 South Street location marks Calexico’s first foray outside of New York. The restaurant is aiming for a fall opening and will have a liquor license.
