Who Are The Amy’s Baking Company Kitchen Nightmares of Philadelphia?

In case you didn’t watch the latest episode of Kitchen Nightmares, the show depicted perhaps its most dysfunctional restaurant yet: Amy’s Baking Company of Scottsdale, Arizona. (You can watch the full episode of Kitchen Nightmares: Amy’s Baking Company below.) The couple behind the restaurant were too much for even Gordon Ramsay to take, and now they’ve taken to Facebook to go completely off the deep end.

Well, FOX Broadcasting Company is once again scouting for Kitchen Nightmares candidates, and we’re wondering if there are any restaurant operators in Philadelphia that even approach the level of the culinary quacks seen in the Amy’s Baking Company episode, or if there are any decent people who just don’t know how to run their restaurants. Ramsay has already visited Zocalo (now closed), Hot Potato Cafe (now closed), and Chiarella’s (still standing).

We just so happen to know some folks at FOX, and we’ll be sure to pass along any serious nominations. Feel free to leave your suggestions in the comments section.

      This place really has potential, they just have no clue how to operate. I walked in their on a Tuesday and saw it was Industry Night, so I said “What are you industry night specials?” and the reply I got was “Well he can explain it to you (as the bartender calls over someone sitting at the bar drinking}”, who proceeds to say, “Well industry night is for people who may work in a restaurant or a kitchen, so we give them specials because it’s a slow night.”

      I work in the industry, I am fully aware WTF Industry Night is…so I politely thanked him for informing me and then asked what the specials were, and he said, “Oh, I don’t know if we are doing that tonight, that board is subject to change at anytime.”

      I want to love Gigi, but every time i go there i am so disappointed. they are always out of the liquor required to make their specialty martinis. I think they need John Taffer to visit!

      Something is definitely up with that place. I’ve been a few times; the drinks and food are good but there’s a weird hostility among the staff.

    The Happy Rooster — the owners are the biggest morons in Philly, the bartenders are robbing them blind and the guys in the kitchen couldn’t cook their way out of a McDonald’s. The menu is so huge for such a small place that there is no way everything on there could be fresh or profitable. Just an awful operation altogether!

      I was there for the first time the other day, and had the soft shell crab special with risotto and it was really good.

    I watched the episode and Amy is off of the deep end and can’t swim.

    I nominate Franklin’s East Falls. The owner is using our local tavern to fund it and it’s killing both. I can’t figure out whether it is a restaurant or a sports bar.

    Well, there are a couple of places that aren’t as good as they used to be, but I don’t think they are bad by any means. Just disappointing compared with their past quality.

      Everyone that made Bridgid’s “Bridgid’s” moved on!

      PYT – can only say others have said the same thing.

      I’ve been to Devon on three occasions and it’s always been mediocre which makes it overpriced too!

    did anyone catch that about three hours ago they allegedly stole one of the pictures from Bufad’s pizza (from foobooz) and tried to pass it off as their own? the photo was recently pulled from facebook.

        Supposedly, a Bufad pizza photo that appeared on Foobooz magically turned up on Amy’s page as their own pizza, but we have been unable to verify that.

    Beck’s Cajun Cafe at Reading Terminal. If Gordon wants another monster owner, he’s get one there! Food is good but the attitude is awful.
    Any place that has a constant post on Craigslist because they can’t keep workers. Beck’s, By George, Mama Palma, The Crazy Tomato Cafe in Manayunk. I know this city is full of weirdos but if you really can’t keep a decent staff, you have to be part of the problem.

      In defense of the Tomato – they have a pretty large staff and do high volume. The guys who own the place are pretty well organized and seem like pretty reasonable people to me.

    Byblos. Without a doubt the worst dining experience I have ever had in Philly. Awful food (got dry, gray, overcooked tuna) terrible service and the owner was a huge d*ck to my wife and I when we complained and still charged us for food that we sent back
