Dave Magrogan Has Created a Sneaky Empire

savor-harvest2

This guy; cotton candy oysters guy; Mr. Kildare’s, himself. Dave Magrogan is a big deal, and barely anybody knows it.

Philadelphia Business Journal reported that Dave Magrogan, owner of Harvest Seasonal Grill, Doc Magrogan’s Oyster House, and Kildare’s Irish Pub made a little over $40 million dollars last year—and he’s on track to make $50 million in the next. He owns 14 restaurants, and employs 1,200, and is planning to open his 15th (another Harvest) in North Wales,  PA this summer.

Those are the kinds of numbers that even make Starr sweat. But then again, that’s not really saying much.

not impressed. looks like a slight notch above the usual chain-restaurant food. and this: “The restaurants do other things to increase sales per customer. For instance, when it’s time for dessert, the servers don’t waste time with a dessert menu. They bring out the dessert, unsolicited, and place a spoon on each customer’s place serving. The onus is then on the customer to refuse what’s sitting before him or her.”

  • captain chaos

isnt he an out of work chiropractor?

  • Phillyfoodie

Yes, and still, just like with a dessert menu, the guest can either refuse dessert, or have it. They are not scoffed at or looked down upon. It is still their choice, there is nothing wrong with that. I think it is actually very clever! And rather than selling desserts that are plated and come with a hefty price tag, these little guys only run $3-$4.

  • amen

If only he would pay his bills….

  • barrygster

Can someone explain what this means?:

“Those are the kinds of numbers that even make Starr sweat. But then again, that’s not really saying much.”

    • Just a guess..

It’s not saying much that the numbers make Starr sweat, because Stephen Starr sweats easily, because Starr is a fatty.

  • Elle

Fudding nailed it — these are chain-quality restaurants. (At least Harvest and Doc Magrogan’s are; I haven’t been to Kildare’s.) Starr can wring out his undershirt and pop a Xanax; he’s gonna be just fine.

Looks like a little kid wearing his dads suit.

  • patrick callahan

And the faux hawk. aaaand the soul patch. whats going on w this guy?

  • rk

Magrogen didn’t make $50 million, he did $50 million in sales. Big difference.

    • rk

and that dessert thing is just awful, might be good business, but it’s atrocious hospitality.

I am a frequent West Chester Kildares guy – I’ve always said this about Dave – glad to see he’s getting the respect he deserves. Cheers!

I can tell you that in 2012 he beat Sysco for over 1 million

  • fred

The man is a dead beat, orders food, sells food, doesn’t pay his purveyors. that doesn’t seem like a stand up guy to me. #POS

  • Curious

So what happens if someone doesn’t touch the dessert? Is it taken away from the table and given to the next person, recycled like bread from a bread basket?

  • Jeffrey Spicoli

this guy is a snake……has stiffed so many people, towns, businesses and vendors over $$$$. Not sure why or how anyone buys into him or his noise. With him, it’s not charging RHINO, it is BULL—-

  • Snake

Are these places even good? I don’t know anybody that’s been to any of these establishments except Kildares Manayunk for a beer.

  • hendry

chain food at best. This guy is an ass!!!! I guess doing it rhino style means rob and steal from anyone in your way. He would steal from his own mom if he gets the chance. On the other hand she probably knows not to lend him a dime.
