Lunacy Returns to Earth Bread + Brewery

When Earth Bread + Brewery’s Tom Baker owned his one-man brewery, Heavyweight Brewing, one of his most popular and most praised beers was Heavyweight Lunacy. The Belgian ale hasn’t been brewed since he closed the New Jersey brewery and subsequently opened Earth Bread + Brewery in Mount Airy. But now he’s brought it back. So race on out to Mount Airy to get this golden ale. Tomorrow would be a good day since it is also EB+B’s fourth anniversary.

    I lived most of my life in France and would like to know what a “French Style Farmhouse Ale” is, especially since 95% of the beer that anyone drinks in France is Kronenbourg.

  • In modern times this may be true but historically French Farmhouse style ales or Saisons were brewed in France, much like those in Belgium. The style is usually thought of as a light drinkable beer, low in alcohol and happens to be one of my favorite styles.

    Ah yes Jacques, ye old, “I grew up there so I know everything about that country” routine. It’s a big country with a long history you dope. Just like any country NO ONE speaks for everyone and every local custom.

    I lived almost my entire life in the USA and would like to know what a “Colonial Brown Ale” is, especially since 95% of the beer that anyone in the US drinks is Bud Light.

    Adding the word “French” to something foodwise makes it interesting and special to the unwashed and unknowledgable American masses. Good marketing.

  • It’s a French farmhouse ale because the yeast comes from Ardennes.
