First Bite: The Chicken at Federal Donuts on Sansom Street

Wednesday morning is the official opening of Federal Donuts at 1630 Sansom Street. Today some lucky emailers were able to taste test the donuts and fried chicken. Luckily, with offices just a couple blocks away, we were also able to sample each of the chicken flavors today.

The menu offerings are completely different from the Pennsport Federal Donuts, though the fried chicken is still split into glazed and seasoned.

The Shabazzi blend stood out among the dry seasonings (green seasoning above) and the dill pickle was the winner in the glazes. Though none were duds, we did miss the heat brought by original’s chili-garlic.

Federal Donuts opens at 1630 Sansom Street at 7 a.m. on Wednesday. Fried chicken orders will begin being filled at 11 a.m.

Just picked up the shabazzi. Fantastic flavor.

Seriously Art, you need to quit simply cutting and pasting press releases from Profile Public Relations. I’m embarassingly easy to figure out that’s all you do now. Advertising

This will never work, bad location.

  • Sarah

It MIGHT work. It just depends on how long people are willing to stand in line (either on their lunch hour or before work) and, IF they have enough supply to meet the demand.
That line needs to move quickly to be a success. I would only go after work, not during or before.

Nobody goes there anymore, it’s too crowded.

  • MPG

@Dan, “Nobody goes there anymore, it’s too crowded”. Think about that…a tad contradictory.

@No, given their huge success in Pennsport, what makes you think they won’t succeed in an area where the morning and daytime population is 10 times what it is there?

  • Row Home Eats

Those are the two I got a chance to sample and they were both great, and nicely complemented one another.

this location will go out of business even faster than the other location did.

@MPG: Dan’s was a well-placed Yogi Berra-ism. No’s was a play on the premature criticism leveled at the first FedNuts location. Welcome to the Internets.

  • Used2Be

First day. 12:45 p.m. 10 minute wait. Not bad at all. Those that came in after me walked right up. FedNuts is on their game!

Just went by again, Mike Solomonov was hanging at the window. Fried chicken is still available. The fancy donuts have sold out.
