Tashan Does Delivery: Not Your Average Indian Take-Out

“What we are doing at Tashan will be more like elegant Dinner At Home experience. Everything about the service will have get a special touch of style, including the packaging and serving containers, napkins, and even utensils.”

So says Munish Narula, owner of Tashan, in discussing the brand new carry-out / delivery service the restaurant will be rolling out starting this Thursday. The kitchen will be offering the entire menu to-go (including all of the new dishes recently added by chef Sylva Senat), which means that you can now sit around on your couch in your underpants eating gol-gappa, tandoori lamb chops, baby octopus in red pepper sauce and screw-pine scented palak tikki in a saffron-morel mushroom cream sauce–which is just classy.

Right now, the delivery area includes Center City, Rittenhouse Square, Graduate Hospital, Bella Vista, Washington Square West, Queen Village and University City. And while that’s already a pretty sizable region to cover, Narula is saying it will probably get even bigger as the new service hits its stride.

Sooooo that whole “I want to get people away from associating Indian food with delivery food” model isn’t working out that well I guess? And I like how they’re not even acknowledging South Philly for their delivery district.

This reeks of a failed project gone up the old kazoo sideways! Delivery here will not work…tsk tsk…

  • Jaspal Maderchod

Slow death here is very painful to watch! R.I.P. No-lula…

  • kenny

    too bad

When a restaurant that cost over a million dollars starts doing delivery, it is not making any money…….and will close eventually.

The certitude of the misinformed is amusing. Far from being a desperation move, the Tashan delivery program has been in the works since April. Every angle — including the predictable vitriol of anonymous haters — was carefully examined and considered by a team restaurant professionals and top outside advisors. Maybe we should have advised the legion of regular patrons who have requested a carry-out / delivery program, that their requests were foolish. But instead, since we’re in the business of serving customers…not random self-appointed restaurant internet idiot savants…we’re moving ahead with the program with every expectation of success.

  • barryg

Wow a team of top outside advisors to launch a delivery program. Next time just call me, I’ll put you guys in touch with DiningIn.com for a small finders fee.

  • Disappointed

@barryg indeed–because approximately 2,000 pizza restaurants in Philadelphia and–oh yeah, TIFFIN–don’t know how to deliver food!

  • no

So… you’ll deliver all the way over to 2nd and South, but not to, say, 12th and Tasker, even though its a quick short shot down Broad?

Whatsa matta, youse scared of us bad south philly folks? Or are we just not “the right type of people” for you to be seen associating with?

  • Om

I am sure all these guys know that most Starr and Garces restaurants deliver (through dining in.com). So, i guess, they are also desperate and all their restaurants are going to close soon.

More like smart business people understand the importance of additional revenue stream especially on slower nights. What a concept.

Lovash is twice as far from me at 15th and Mifflin and they delivery down my way. We get take-out from there at least once a month. Guess we are not fancy enough down here for “Not your average Indian take-out”

  • meh-

People in living in a South Philly rowhome probably can’t afford Tashan.

  • Dan

So if you live in a center city “townhouse” you can afford it?

Haha, I live in CC. My house is smack in the middle of two other virtually identical houses in a row. But I call it a “townhouse” and feel haughty about it.

Sorry South Philly fans. We consider Tashan to be in South Philly…so it goes without saying that delivery would service the neighborhood. No slight intended against S. Philly!

  • Joe

We love Tashan and can’t wait to have it delivered for those intimate nights that we don’t want to share with the world. To have a guy in a neck tie deliver food in near porcelain plates and silver wear makes my girl feel special and thats all that counts.
