Tapestry on Vacation, When Will They Reopen

Rather than highjack a comments thread, we’re posting about Tapestry’s vacation here. The Queen Village bar has been closed for vacation since last week and according to co-owners Robert Nydick and Kar Vivekananthan, it will reopen this Friday. Tapestry is one property of the Belvedere Business Group,  Agiato in Manayunk is another and is also closed for vacation, reopening on Monday, August 27th.

Nydick also tells us that they will be making some changes to the dinner menu at Tapestry in the coming weeks.

Newsflash Bobby and Kar – restaurants that hope to survive do not take “vacations”, not even for an hour.

Suck it up or pack it in ya wussies

Modo Mio has taken a month-long vacation every summer for as long as I’ve been aware of the restaurant. They do okay.

  • JetJill

Before opening my places, I had romantic visions of closing every August. Sadly, no. but good for Modo Mio!

  • barryg

Modo Mio is a tiny chef-driven BYO with low rent. Not at all the same.

  • Bri

Hopefully they made changes to the wait staff too. Went in there on a Friday around 10:30 for a drink to check it out and sat there for the next 20 minutes. We put the drink menus at the end of the table to make sure he knew we were ready to order, but he just kept looking at us and walking by. Guess since we weren’t ordering food we didn’t deserve the attention? Walked out, what a disappointment.

Who wants to take bets this “vacation” is permanent?

  • Rob

Maybe you could look at the multiple tweets that Kar (don_Kar) sent to the Mayor about 5 days ago to figure out this mystery.

  • Tex

Doesn’t Vetri vacation in August as well? All Tapestry has to do is charge $155 for a tasting menu and it’ll do just fine.

  • Abby

Uh oh, sounds like a permanent vacation to me! Making other plans for Saturday…

  • CaptainLogic

shitty people doing shitty things. shitty.

  • Michael G

I’m now convinced that location is cursed.

  • huh

Does barry have an axe to grind here ? he started a thread in a different forum badmouthing this restaurant too .

  • Investors

He is right, Philadelphia treats investors like shit. The fines etc are complete bullshit. Philadelphia has so much uncollected debt because the debt is fake, overinflated amounts like this example.

Take your money elsewhere before wasting it investing in Philadelphia, a sinking ship the rats are running

  • barryg

lol. All he had to do was get the right license and fix up the properties. The city gave him a great deal — get legal, fix up the properties, and go on a reasonable payment plan for the fraction of the total fines. Since he is unwilling or able to do that, he is in trouble and owes all the back fines. The city has been ignoring unlicensed “investors” that sit on vacant, blighted properties that bring down neighborhoods for far too long. This is a positive development.

If he is such a good guy and great “investor” where did the restaurant revenues go to pay the $30k in sales tax he owes to the state?

  • barryg

@huh I call it like I see it. Successful bar going on “vacation” for two weeks right as the summer lull is ending — sounds like a lot more to that story and I was right.

  • Mel

Tapestry is open. Beer is flowing guys. This is my neighborhood spot. Sooo happy you guys are wrong. WTF is wrong with you people? Did your older brothers lock you in the hamper or something? Eat, drink and stop being assholes.

  • Abby

Yay, thanks for the update, Mel!

  • barryg

I lost a bet on this one. Shocked they are open but it never made sense to shut down the business over a lien on the guys house anyway.

  • Tapestry is now closed. This is indeed a fact.

I worked for the Belvedere Restaurant Group for a while and it was a complete mess. I’d be surprised if they can keep anything going for an extended period of time. It was honestly the worst money management I’ve ever seen.
