Six Pack: Fish Tacos in Philadelphia

Philadelphia’s taco scene is blossoming before our eyes (just ask the creepy Tacodelphia mascot, he’ll show you where they all are). But what if you just want fish tacos? Never fear, Foobooz is here with six Philly spots with delicious fish taco-y goodness.

Honest Tom’s Special Tacos

Though Honest Tom’s has kicked off its wheels and can only be found at its brick-and-mortar location in University City, Tom still has legions of taco lovers flocking in. If you head over after 5 p.m. Monday to Saturday you can score one of their special fish tacos with pickled shallots, grilled pineapple, jalapeño aioli, and fresh cilantro.

Fish Tacos in Rittenhouse

As a Rittenhouse Square staple since 1998 Rouge and their current executive chef Sam Noh continue to keep their park-side bistro humming with their fish tacos. Filled with tilapia, avocado, romaine, lime, and mango salsa, their take on the taco is not to be missed.

Jose Pistola’s Grouper Tacos are the best fish tacos on the east coast. There isn’t a close second.

“Mexican lobster roll” – lobster roll on a taco- at Ippolito’s is to die for! Only $12, and they kill the lobster when you order it.It doesn’t get much fresher than that. And, bonus, the fries there are really good, too!

I love Sabrina’s fish tacos!!! Not sure if I am mad or glad that you’ve tipped everyone off to their awesomeness. My only gripe is that depending on who is in the kitchen sometimes you only get a single-layer tortilla, which isn’t sufficient to contain all the goodness inside. The second tortilla makes a huge difference in whether you have a prayer of getting to the end of the taco without it disintigrating.

I second the grouper tacos at Jose Pistolas! I clicked on this article expecting to see them on the list.

I love the yellowtail tacos at Distrito.

Smokin’ Betty’s are the best fish tacos around. The ones at Morgen’s Pier are terrible!

  • Andrew

The fish tacos at Cantina Feliz and La Calaca Feliz are fantastic.

  • Dustin

I love Chef Katz but those Morgan’s Pier tacos do suck.

Chef Townsend Wentz @ McCrossen’s Tavern in Fairmount makes some killer Fish Tacos. And I’m not saying that just because we do his PR! They truly rock!

  • CM

I’d like to add National Mechanics to the list. They turn out some mighty tasty fish tacos.

  • Paul

Morgan’s Pier are probably the worst fish tacos I’ve ever had. Another vote for Jose Pistolas.
