Six Pack: Meat on Fries

One of the most wonderful food trends of the past few years has been the genius idea of adding meat to French fries. Here are six of our favorite fry dishes topped with meat.

We’ve been going to Nick’s Cafe at 20th and Jackson for roast beef sandwiches and gravy fries. But then several years ago the waitress asked us if we wanted meat in our beef gravy and we’ve been loving it that way ever since. Luckily other Philadelphia restaurants have followed suit.

Pub & Kitchen Disco Fries

Sometimes the primary purpose of brunch is to soak up last night’s alcohol. Few things do that as effectively as Pub & Kitchen’s disco fries, fries topped with Swiss cheese, a sunny side egg, and smoked ham cream gravy .

Smoked Cheese and Debris Fries at Khyber Pass Pub

How do you make French fries better? Add smoked cheddar. How do you make cheese fries better? Add beef gravy with chunks of delicious beef. That’s what you can do and should do at Khyber Pass Pub. You can even add the cheese and gravy to sweet potato fries if you feel the urge.

Fries Topped with Jumbo Lump Crab at Varga Bar

Chickie’s and Pete’s vigorously defend their trademark of Crab Fries but at Varga Bar they serve the real deal. The Jumbo Lump Fries at this Washington Square West bar are topped with jumbo lump crab meat, white cheddar, parmesan and truffle oil. No Old Bay Seasoning to be found. And they practically cost the same as what Chickie’s charges at the ball park.

The Amanda Fries at Guppy’s Good Times are  fries with nacho toppings and nothing is wrong with that. The Conshohocken bar is topped with grilled steak, chipotle barbecue sauce, melted cheese guacamole, pio de gallo and crema.
