Tale of the Tape: Morgan’s Pier
This Memorial Day Weekend marks the opening of Morgan’s Pier, the Delaware River waterfront’s first destination beer garden. The “backyard beer garden will include a menu by Meme’s David Katz, 40 craft beers, free Saturday concerts and more.
The Story Behind the Name Morgan’s Pier
- Morgan’s Pier is named for George C. Morgan, who was the first person to cross the span of the Benjamin Franklin Bridge. Morgan did so by trekking the final 50 feet of the still incomplete foot bridge on a bare support cable 400 feet in the air. He was fired on-the-spot.
- Avram Hornik, Mark Fichera and Joseph Crouse of Four Corners Management, Sean Agnew of R5 Productions, Dave Pianka of Making Time, and The Bowery Presents are all behind the Delaware Riverfront project.
The Space at Morgan’s Pier
- David Fierabend of Groundswell Design Group designed the space.

- Little Baby’s Ice Cream tricycle will offer sweet treats
- Over the course of the summer Katz will invite Philadelphia chefs to share their idea of the perfect barbecue. Look for the following chefs to participate:

Live Entertainment at Morgan’s Pier
- The stage at Morgan’s Pier will feature a hand-picked cast of international and local DJs curated by Making Time’s Dave Pianka
- Free Saturday afternoon concert series booked by R5 Productions, starting with Philadelphia’s own Bleeding Rainbow on June 9th.
- Every Sunday at 3pm, the deck will host the Sundae Open Air Dance Party, presented by Lee Jones.
