The opening of the Glen Mills Whole Foods a couple weeks ago may just have been the best thing to happen to grocery shopping since the invention of grocery stores. Not only does the place offer 38,000 square-feet of organic, sustainable, free-range, vegetarian- and vegan-friendly gluten-free and house-made food, but it also contains…wait for it…a full-blown pub.
No, really! And while this beer-in-a-grocery-store thing isn’t completely new (Wegman’s has a pub, too), Brew and Brau, as the Whole Foods bar is called, is a rustic beer-and-wine-and-coffee bar that serves organic java, 15 local wines, approximately half a dozen local beers on tap and food prepared at the store. As a matter of fact, the whole operation is so local and neighborhood-y that Yards has even brewed a house beer for the opening. Though you can’t walk around the store with a pint (boo!), you can drink it on one of 40 seats at the bar or meander out to the patio where another 46 seats beckon.
You can also buy six-packs or 12-packs for take-out but you have to sip your wine on-premise.
