    The Beer Store in Southampton (lower Bucks County) does growler fills from its 24 taps. Ceramic flip-top ones are $25 for the glass, I forget what they charge for the screw-top ones. Fill prices are a wide range – from $12 to about $40. Their newest Facebook page is below (they changed it recently) –

    Chap’s Taproom in Jeffersonville (next to Norristown) does growler fills as well. I forget what they charge for an empty glass (I think they sell screw top only) –

    A couple of the Canal’s Liquor stores near Philly do growler fills as well. The one in Lawrenceville (in between Trenton and Princeton off Rt. 1) and the one in West Deptford.

    How often do people need a quart of beer to go? I really don’t get this whole concept.

    Growlers are a joke. The beer is good for no more than 24 hours. After opening you have no more than 3 hours no matter how tight to close them. They really are an overpriced fraud.

    O’Neals on 3rd st does growler fills, I think it’s like 20% off the cost of 4 pints.

    A growler holds slightly more than 5 bottles of beer, it’s not that different than picking up a six pack. They’re great for parties and game-watching. The real benefit to them is that you can get beer that’s available on tap, but hard to find in bottles.

    Growlers can easily last for several days unopened. The problem is that some bars don’t know how to cap them. I see too many bartenders fill it, then let it settle. They need to cap on foam quickly to preserve as much of the carbonation as possible. Also, the screwtop caps must be replaced every couple fills, the seal wears out. They also need to be sealed very tight. Flip tops are better for this, the gasket lasts longer and they make a reliably tight seal.

    I’ve had really good luck with the counterpressure growler fills at Hawthornes lasting a few weeks unopened, and up to a week once opened. Don’t ask me what the “counterpressure” system means there, but apparently it’s not your typical pour from a tap.

    Canal’s West Deptford is my favorite place to grab growlers. And I agree with Mike. I buy a growler when going to a friends house to watch the game, and have it finished by the end of the night.

    Forgot to bring one to superbowl party last week and people were disappointed.

    Need to pour through a hose to the bottom of the growler and fill from the bottom up. Reduces oxidation and the release of CO2.

    Jon’s Bar and Grille at 3rd and South Streets also offers Growlers. When a Bar or Restaurant offers a great Draft Beer selection I think offering Growlers is a great idea, some times bottles just don’t provide the taste that a fine Draft Beer does. You’re going to pay for it but I see that people who purchase Growlers really enjoy a good Draft Beer and they don’t seem to mind paying a premium for that opportunity.
