Eating Local at the Philadelphia Home Show

For those of you being forced to accompany your wives or girlfriends to the Philadelphia Home Show this week, we offer you the equivalent of the man bench outside the dressing room: the “Love Local” food-and-drink presentation area. For the next three nights, Rolling Barrel Events will partner with local food and alcohol purveyors to host a variety of informal tastings and workshops just inside the home show entrance. Tonight, a rep from Philadelphia Distilling will show guests how to mix up cocktails. Tomorrow, wines from the Brandywine Valley Wine Trail get paired with cheeses from Fair Food Farmstead. And Thursday, Night Kitchen Bakery supplies cookies to nibble along with local craft brews. Cookies and beer? Yeah, you’re welcome.

The area will be set up between 5 and 8 each night, and there’s no additional cost beyond the show ticket. The idea behind it is to give you ideas for your next house party, but whatever. Let your wife worry about that. Your job is to pray that she spends the night “trying on” home products so that you get plenty of time to keep yourself entertained at the “bench” provided by Love Local.
