Area Restaurants Still Drying Out

The Delaware infringes on Charcoal in Yardley

When Hurricane Irene and the remnants of Lee roared through the area most of us escaped unscathed. But to some area restaurateurs the cleanup is still underway.

Charcoal BYOB in Yardley, which was wiped out by flooding in 2006 didn’t reopen till Tuesday this time around, despite the restaurant being rebuilt ten feet above ground.

Lee was also the villain for Ambler’s Dettera. The upscale spot reopens this evening after flash flooding knocked the popular restaurant out of action.

Hardest hit of all is the Manayunk Brewery and Restaurant. The Main Street brewpub has experienced flooding before as Hurricane Floyd submerged the restaurant and had the brewery equipment bobbing around back in 1999. This time the brewery equipment survived but the carpeting, bar and kitchen equipment was ruined. Just as there seemed to be a light at the end of the tunnel Lee came to town and flooded the Manayunk mainstay all over again. The brewpub hopes to reopen by the end of this week.
