Yards Reigns Supreme at WIP’s Beer Brawl

Last night WIP held the finals for its Beer Brawl. Yards Saison was tops in the Seasonal/Specialty category and scored higher than any other beer entered.

Yards Philly Pale Ale won for Light Bodied Beer and also took home the Listeners’ Choice. The winner in the full-bodied beer category was Nodding Head’s Grog.

Rick Kocher of Limerick, a member of the Bruclear Homebrewers Club won the homebrewing segment of the event.

    Competition must have been weak

I listened to a bit of this – the judges were a complete joke. The only judge with any knowledge was Joe Six Pack, but of course, he was eager not to offend any of the local breweries so it amounted to nothing more than a puff piece. The other judges were the Phanatic, John Chaney, Leslie Gudel, and I think Brian Mitchell.

One of my favorite moments included Leslie saying she didn’t like the Victory Summer Love because it tasted too much like beer. She said it wasn’t to her taste because it wasn’t sweet or flowery enough. Chaney didn’t like hops at all, but it was pretty funny because by the end he was wasted and carrying on, talking over Glen Macnow. He began to give everything scores of 98-99.

Honestly, I think Glen really dropped the ball on this one. His Sandwich Safari is routinely pretty good, but this was pathetic.
