Federal Donuts to Open This Summer


Where do you go for gourmet fried chicken, doughnuts, and coffee all at the same time? Nowhere, right? Well, starting this summer, you’ll find all three under the same South Philly roof with Federal Donuts, a collaboration between Steven Cook and Michael Solomonov of Zahav, Thomas Henneman and Bob Logue of BODHI Coffee, and Felicia D’Ambrosio, of the Universe. Read on for the preliminary details.

What They’ll Serve: coffee, donuts and fried chicken.

The Chicken: half and whole fried chicken in various styles, including Korean and Classic Crunchy. Glazes include Black Garlic and Date Molasses; and Mango, Pickle and Passion Fruit.

The Donuts: a variety of house-made sweet cake donuts, including Plain, Glazed, Chocolate and seasonal specials, such as: Key Lime, with graham cracker streusel; Vanilla Cardamom Custard with pistachio; Brown Sugar-Grapefruit;  Chocolate Blood Orange Cream with orange blossom; will be prepared on premises and sold individually and by the dozen.

The Coffee: Stumptown

How You’ll Get It: Mostly take-out with 10 seats

Opening: Summer-ish.

Expected Hours: Breakfast, lunch and dinner daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m
