Where do you go for gourmet fried chicken, doughnuts, and coffee all at the same time? Nowhere, right? Well, starting this summer, you’ll find all three under the same South Philly roof with Federal Donuts, a collaboration between Steven Cook and Michael Solomonov of Zahav, Thomas Henneman and Bob Logue of BODHI Coffee, and Felicia D’Ambrosio, of the Universe. wow… excited and scared at the same time

How is 219 South Second “South Philly”? Isn’t that more like Old City? Though to be fair, naming it “Federal Donuts” does make that confusing; is this from the same people who named 8th Street Music?

  • http://illeatyou.com paul

sorry, now I get it, it’s 1219 South Second according to Meal Ticket.

@ Paul. Yep, my bad. It’s fixed now.

Best news all week… And it’s only Tuesday. But I’m confident.

I suppose that most people would say Center City ends at South Street, but I think any commonsense definition today is Washington Ave.

I’ll be curious to see if there is neighborhood opposition to a “South Street like” takeout joint on that block. What are the proposed operating hours? Have they cleared this with the Queen Village Neighbors Association? If zoning approval is needed, I hope they have, because otherwise the old folks who live around there will kill it.

Ah, posted my comment while the address was being corrected.

It’s about time something like this opened up in da hood!

  • Willie

Donuts? Donuts?? Where’s the freakin’ WAFFLES, Mike?? Sell the donuts, yes, but how much better would this have been to incorporate creative, made-to-order waffles to complement your chicken?? EH?

  • jag

    this is awesome!
finally! more stuff in pennsport! thank you!

donuts are way better than waffles.

  • Willie

S: Solo, yes, doughnuts beat waffles. With fried chicken, waffles trump doughnuts.

  • Snake

    This sounds…interesting.

Is this place going to be open for breakfast with the donuts and coffee, is it a lunch spot with the chicken? Am I supposed to mix the chicken and donuts?

  • http://foobooz.com/ Kirsten Henri

@ Snake. They’ll be serving breakfast, lunch and dinner daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

  • tyler

how do you go from zahav to peddling this crap..downward spiral for michael and steven, first percy now this…

  • benji

A regular coffee shop would probably be more viable in this neighborhood than a place with multiple banal gimmicks

  • Michelle Reynolds

    YES!

  • Peter

I’m definitely looking forward to something new in the neighborhood. Hopefully there will be things on the menu that don’t max-out the indulgence factor. One can do that only so often.

So did this project die? I noticed the twitter page is not working and the store front looks untouched as of late last week.

    • http://philadelphia.foobooz.com Foobooz

Nope not dead at all. In fact they were testing out dougnuts today.

  • j

  • NE food boy

i hope someone makes a mistake and fries the donuts in the chicken oil that would be a blunder i’d like to try.

  • NE food boy
