First Look at Tweed

There's a new restaurant coming to Midtown Village and it's wearing herringbone

The Midtown Village neighborhood, which is already packed to the brim with restaurants, is about to get one more. Tweed, a new spot from restaurateur Edward Bianchini, a Philadelphia native who’s been running Hotel Les Muscadins, a Michelin-starred hotel and restaurant on the French Riviera for the past 20 years, and chef David Cunningham (Yardley Inn, Bookbinder’s, New York’s Lenox Room), will open its doors on Thursday, June 10th. Bianchini and Cunningham gave the Restaurant Club a sneak preview of the menu and of the dramatic interior. You may recognize the 114 South 12th Street address as the former home of John Mims’ New Orleans-inflected (and ill-fated) Les Bon Temps, but you certainly won’t recognize the interior, which has been dramatically overhauled by local design-build firm UrbanSpaceDevelopment, whose handiwork is visible at Noble and various Capogiros around town.

The elegant, contemporary decor incorporates the signature fabric of the name, plus some other striking elements, which you can view in our sneak peek photo gallery.

The “Contemporary American” menu, which you can download here, includes a range of items from cheesesteak fritters to Dover sole. Chef David Cunningham is not only on the fresh, local, seasonal bandwagon, he seems to be driving it. He’s sourcing his “American-style” charcuterie to a Bucks County pork farm, his eggs and dairy from Newtown and his beef from a cattle farm in New Jersey, for starters. Cunningham says he’d like to have all of his ingredients, within reason, to come from within a 100-mile radius of Philly, “but I don’t want to be preachy or ‘in your face’ about it,” he cautions, “It’s about the dining experience first and foremost.”

Hours: Dinner service begins Thursday, June 10th and will regularly run Tuesday through Saturday, 5pm to 10pm. Lunch will begin Tuesday, June 15 and will be served 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Brunch will be served Saturdays and Sundays beginning Sunday, June 13 from 11 a.m.  to 4 p.m.  Bar will be open until midnight with a bar menu that runs non-stop from opening until close daily. Closed all day Monday and for dinner Sunday.
