What To Do On New Year’s Day

We’ve got Mummers marching down Broad Street, we’ve got the Flyers playing outdoors and we’ve shaken the amateurs from the night before. So what’s going on around town on New Year’s Day? Here are some of the places we’re considering.

Devil’s Den – Yards will be by at 1pm with a firkin of  their Old Bartholomew Barleywine.

Earth Bread+ Brewery – Mt. Airy’s pizza and beer spot opens at 1pm.

Institute – After Christmas Clearance Event, from 2pm to 8pm, buy one Christmas beer, get one free. Appetizers will also be 50% off.

Kanella – Kanella will be open for brunch and dinner starting at 11:30.

Local 44 – Celebrate Local 44 turning one with anniversary and holiday beers plus free food all night. Starts at 4pm.

McGillin’s Olde Ale House – McGillin’s is celebrating its 150 years with 150 varieties of beer. It all starts at 9am just a half-block from Broad Street mummery.

Pub & Kitchen – Whether your cure to a hangover involves good greasy meat or “hair of the dog,” P&K has you covered as they serve up burgers and $5 Bloody Marys from 12 to 4pm.

Royal Tavern – Royal Tavern will be open for New Year’s Day brunch. A bacon-topped Bloody Mary will ring in 2010 with a point.

Standard Tap – The Tap offers brunch from 11 to 3.

Supper – It’s BYODog for a true “hair of the dog” brunch experience. There will be varieties on the Bloody Mary, Supper’s a la carte brunch menu and guests are encouraged to bring their dogs. A portion of proceeds will be donated to the PSPCA.

Swift Half – $5 Mimosas and Ghosts of Mary along with anti-hangover food specials.

Tattooed Mom’s – It’s a pajama party with “traditional” pork and sauerkraut buffet plus Bloody Mary specials.

Tria– It’s literally Hair of the Dog as there will be special pricing on three beers from Portland, Oregon’s Hair of the Dog Brewery.

Varga Bar – Varga starts the day off by offering brunch from 11am to 5pm and remains open for dinner.
