Beer Drinks

London Grill

We know about wheat beer mimosas, summer shandys and spicy micheladas. But we still cannot help but be a bit incredulous about these new “beer drinks” being offered by London Grill.

Among the special drinks:

  • London Shandy, Fuller’s ESB, Domaine de Canton ginger liqueur and lemon
  • Sierra Red Eye, Sierra Nevada pale ale with a shot of spicy house-made Bloody Mary mix
  • Flower Bud, Budweiser, crème de violette and St. Germain elderflower liqueur
  • Bank Robber, Stoudt’s Willie Sutton lager, house-infused green tea vodka and Irish Mist
  • Smoke ‘Em If You Got ‘Em, Victory Prima Pils with mescal, chipotle vodka, lime and a salt rim
  • How Now Brown Cow, Brooklyn brown ale with Nocello and espresso vodka

All told there will be 14 rotating options and prices will range from $5 to $8.

Yes, incredulous, but also intrigued.

The whole concept dovetails nicely with Joe Sixpack’s recent article about the fad of chefs ’embracing’ lowly beer as a gourmet accompaniment to their dishes.

I’ll stick with my ginger beer based Dark & Stormy.

RSR; what and where is a ginger based ‘Dark & Stormy’?

  • RSR

Dark & Stormy is a cocktail attributed to Bermuda; the usually recipe calls for Goslings Black Seal Rum and ginger beer. You can get close with ginger ale.

I know I’ve read some posts on local establishments making their own ginger beer (it’s not the same process as ‘beer’ beer) and mixing various cocktails with it. I’m not sure if those posts were on foobooz or elsewhere…

Dark ‘n Stormy = Dark rum (preferably Gosling’s) + ginger beer (preferably Barrit’s-sp?); sometimes a squeeze of lime is added

The Rum Bar on Rittenhouse makes tasty ones.

    What RSR sez…

  • Foobooz

Ginger beer like root beer, is a non-alcoholic drink. Ginger beer has a stronger ginger taste than that typically found in ginger ale.

You can find house-made ginger beer right now at the new Oyster House.

Does anyone know what’s in a dark and stormy?
