Savona, in Gulph Mills, is back up and running after having closed for six weeks for a face-lift — I mean, an entire Extreme Home Makeover-style rehab. There are new menus, a lower price point, a newish sommelier, and an updated vibe: The bar was entirely gutted and redesigned, the Terrazzo was built, and everything else was redone — floors, paint, lighting, furniture. The cuisine used to lean toward heavier French/Italian, but chef Andrew Masciangelo has kept his loyal patrons happy with a new, super-focused Frenchy/Continental main dining room menu (think foie, lobster, and lamb). We can’t wait to try the lighter Italian bar menu, which brings the restaurant into the 21st century. What we’ll order: Fried artichoke hearts with lemon zest for $9; the Juliano pizza with grilled zucchini, red onion, farm egg, and pomodoro for $11; and wood-fired Duroc pork chop with asparagus and farro for $21. Sommelier Melissa Monosoff has decided to wrangle in the 1,000-plus wine list by creating a more focused, smaller “Sommelier Selection,” expanding the wines-by-the-glass program, and starting a new list of half-bottles so drinkers can experiment more.
