Jose Garces’ Tinto Aiming For January Opening


TintoIn January, Amdada’s chef Jose Garces, is set to open his second restaurant, Tinto, a wine bar at 114 South 20th Street. Tinto will feature the cuisine of the Basque country, the coastal and mountainous regions that blur the lines of demarcation between Spain and France. The 60-seat restaurant will feel like a rustic wine cellar and will feature a wine list of more than 100 Spanish and French varieties. The menu of will feature “pinxtos,” the Basque region’s equivalent of tapas.

Tinto’s menu will feature a varied selection of charcuterie, cheeses, shellfish, brochettes and sandwiches.

The interior will be designed by New York-based designer Jun Aizaki, whose firm Creme designed and built Amada’s interior. Thousands of wine bottles will completely surround the room. A 22-foot bar constructed with reclaimed orange-stained lumber, and black and white Spanish tile, will provide seating for up to 12 guests. High-top tables and black bent wooden chairs will offer additional seating. Downstairs, Tinto will offer a lounge atmosphere, with cozy dark brown and mustard colored vinyl upholstered sofas, and black laminate tables.
