Philadelphia magazine and the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists are partnering to create a fellowship, with the goal of increasing opportunities for journalists from diverse backgrounds.
One fellowship will be awarded each year, beginning in 2017. Recipients will serve a 10-week fellowship (June-August) in Philadelphia magazine’s editorial department, getting hands-on experience with fact-checking, reporting and writing. Fellows will work 29.5 hours per week and be paid a total stipend of $4,000.
The fellowship is open to currently enrolled college students or those who have graduated from college within one year of the start of the fellowship. Eligible candidates must meet at least one of two criteria: 1) be part of a group under-represented in the journalism profession, or 2) have overcome significant obstacles.
Members of PABJ will select three finalists from among the applicants. Philadelphia magazine will interview each finalist, then select a recipient.
The deadline to apply for the Summer 2017 fellowship is April 1, 2017.
