Eagles To Meet With QB Matt Scott Monday

Arizona quarterback Matt Scott broke a little news following his Pro Day, telling reporters that he will be meeting with the Eagles on Monday.

The Eagles will be the first NFL team he visits, according to the Arizona Daily Star, and he is expected to work out for them later this month. The Chargers, Cardinals and Bills are also apparently showing some interest.

The 6-2, 213-pound Scott took over the starting job for the Wildcats this season, replacing none other than Nick Foles. The 22-year-old California native completed 60 percent of his passes for 3,620 yards with 27 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. He also rushed for 506 yards and six touchdowns.

This is from NFL.com’s draft profile:

A high school All-American from California, Scott’s career in Tucson hasn’t gone exactly how he had imagined. He threw 176 passes in three years, lost his starting job to eventual 2012 third-round pick of the Eagles, Nick Foles, as a sophomore and decided to take a healthy redshirt in 2011 so he could be in charge after Foles used up his eligibility. His strong arm and excellent mobility fit perfectly the offensive system installed by new Wildcats head coach Rich Rodriguez however, and Scott will surely interest teams as a “dual threat” QB option to develop.

A “dual-threat” is precisely what Chip Kelly appears to prefer, which probably factors  into the interest here. Kelly actually got to see Scott up close in September when Oregon played Arizona. It couldn’t have left that great of an impression, as Scott threw three picks in a 49-0 Ducks win.

But that obviously doesn’t paint the whole picture, and the Eagles see enough in Scott to at least bring him in.

Greg Cosell tweeted about Scott recently.

CBS Sports projects Scott to go in the fifth round.
