Making Sense Of the Eagles’ Inactives

The following Eagles are inactive for today’s 1 p.m. game against the Redskins: Michael VickChris PolkMardy GilyardJason Avant, Vinny Curry, Phillip Hunt and Nate Menkin.

Danny Watkins was questionable with an ankle injury. He missed the previous three games, but will dress today. According to Dave Spadaro, Watkins will not start. Instead, it will be newcomer Jake Scott. The Eagles’ projected starting offensive line is: King Dunlap (LT), Evan Mathis (LG), Dallas Reynolds (center), Scott (RG) and Dennis Kelly (RT). The Eagles are going with three backup linemen: Demetress BellWatkins and Matt Tennant. Normally, they only go with two.

Avant suffered a hamstring injury last week against the Cowboys. Riley Cooper and Damaris Johnson figure to see more playing time in his place. The Eagles could also go with more two tight-end sets and get Clay Harbor on the field.

Curry can’t catch a break. Todd Bowles sung his praises during the week, but the second-round pick is inactive for the 10th straight game. The Eagles have nine defensive linemen active: five defensive tackles and four defensive ends. Hunt is inactive for the second straight game.

Polk is out for the second straight game with a toe injury.

And, of course, Vick (concussion) is out for the first time all season. Nick Foles gets his first career start, and Trent Edwards will back him up.
