The hits just keep on coming for the Eagles’ offensive line.
Todd Herremans has been placed on injured reserve and is done for the year with a dislocated bone, some fractures and torn ligaments in his right foot. He is expected to be in a boot for a minimum of eight weeks. Head trainer Rick Burkholder does not believe the injury is career-threatening. The Eagles are leaning away from surgery but are still gathering information.
In a corresponding move, Julian Vandervelde was activated to the 53-man roster.
The veteran tackle was forced to the sidelines late in the first quarter against the Saints with what Andy Reid called an ankle tendon strain. The MRI results haven’t been made public yet, but the news is obviously not good.
Demetress Bell filled in for Herremans at right tackle and struggled big time.
Howard Mudd will have to get creative to make this patchwork offensive line work, and there could be some shuffling. Rookie Dennis Kelly played tackle in college, but said on Wednesday that he had not received any indication that he is moving from guard.
Elswhere on the injury front: LeSean McCoy missed practice Wednesday with an illness. He began to feel sick on Tuesday, but is expected to be fine.
Danny Watkins (ankle) remains sidelined. Nate Allen (hamstring) returned to practice and expects to play against the Cowboys. His replacement Monday night, David Sims, was just a spectator Wednesday because of a foot injury. Sims said he would return to practice Thursday.
Chris Polk did not practice with an injured toe.
