Melograno
2012 Sansom Street
Philadelphia, PA 19103
#19 on the Philly Mag 50
Something you never thought you’d see at Melograno: extra space. The restaurant’s new, larger digs may not yet have the homey feel of the original location, but the richly flavored, rustic Italian dishes and the convivial atmosphere of this well-loved BYOB are unchanged.

Review
I'll begin by saying the food was WONDERFUL, which makes up for, I guess, the rocky start to our evening at Melograno. We knew there would be a long wait, so we arrived early and were told we would get a table in about 90 minutes. No problem. However, once we were seated it took the server about 10 minutes to arrive at our table. Upon his arrival, he told us he would open our wine, but there was a shortage of wine glasses and we would have to wait to drink our wine. This is like telling a diner that there are no forks available with which to eat the meal. We waited about ten minutes for four glasses; one of which needed to be returned to remove the lipstick of its previous user.
After sharing this story with a friend, she told me the same thing happened to her when she dined at Melograno. It would seem a marginal cost to have extra glasses on hand for outdoor seating (which was the excuse we were given) or for breaks, or whatever, compared to the cost of disappointing customers and facing bad reviews. But I guess once you make the Philly Mag 50, you don't need to worry about frills like glassware.
But like I said, the food was wonderful, and I guess I'd go back. But I'd bring my own glass.
