7 Sessions You Don’t Want to Miss at the Pa. Conference for Women

On October 6th, the highly anticipated Pennsylvania Conference for Women will gather some of the country’s biggest names to talk women’s empowerment. Activist and professor Anita Hill, actress and author Mindy Kaling, international soccer champion Abby Wambach, and best-selling author and Wharton professor Adam Grant are all keynote speakers.

Some of Philadelphia’s own will lead breakout sessions during the daylong event at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, including Philadelphia magazine executive editor Ashley Primis and Philadelphia Inquirer features reporter Sofiya Ballin. Leaders from Comcast, QVC, Tierney, PECO, and Beneficial Bank will also play a role. Check out the full lineup of speakers.

QVC, a sponsor of the conference, and zulily will host a product search at the conference in hopes of finding their next brand or product. Participants will pitch product ideas before a live audience and a panel of retail experts.

Here are seven sessions that you don’t want to miss:

1. Women, Work and Life: How to Give and Take
Designed for the mid/senior level professional, this session with Wharton professor Adam Grant will explore how women can contribute to others without burning out or getting burned.

2. How We Decide: Strategies to Improve Our Decision Making Skills
This session will offer expertise for maneuvering career and life transitions with Dr. Therese Huston, author of How Women Decide: What’s True, What’s Not, and What Strategies Spark the Best Choices.

3. Career Transitions: Pivoting Into Career 2.0
Anyone questioning what to do next in their career is sure to walk away with some pointers from this session. Jody Greenstone Miller,, founder and CEO of Business Talent Group and one of Fortune’s “Ten Most Promising Women Entrepreneurs,” will help attendees set themselves up for a successful transition into Career 2.0.

4. Innovative Women Pushing the Boundaries: Sharing Strategies for Risk-Taking and Success
Designed with millennials in mind, this session with Project Eve cofounder Meridith Dennes will address the reality of those dreaming about entrepreneurship and taking professional risks.

5. Managing Stress & Burnout
Stress and resiliency expert Paula Davis-Laack will offer strategies for managing and improving your physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing.

6. The Art of Branding: Positioning Yourself for YOUR Future
A diverse panel of women led by The Marketing Zen Group CEO Shama Hyder will help attendees recognize how they can promote the real value they bring to their work. The session will focus on helping conference-goers move beyond the regurgitated bullet points on their resumes.

7. Unconscious Bias: Strategies for Bridging the Gap
Human resources and talent experts will discuss what it takes to lead a diverse team and tackle unconscious bias in the workplace. Attendees will walk away with actionable steps for impacting positive change in their teams and organizations.
