Wawa Launches Credit Card

And it'll save you money on gasoline.

Wawa's new credit card.

Wawa’s new credit card.

Wawa has launched its own credit card, and the popular retailer hopes it’ll attract more customers to get gas at its locations.

For the first two months that their accounts are open, Wawa Credit Card customers will save 25-cents-per-gallon on gas when re-fueling at Wawa locations. After that, they’ll save 5-cents-per-gallon on up to 100 gallons per month. (I’ll be applied to customers as a statement credit at the end of the month.)

Customers can get multiple cards on the same account, review their accounts online, schedule payments and separate fuel purchases from other buys, according to a new company website. It also offers $0 liability for unauthorized charges and identity theft protection from Citi.

The move comes on the heels of a new rewards app Wawa rolled out at the beginning of the year. It offers rewards like free food and drinks for every $50 spent at the retailer. (I recently analyzed how the Wawa rewards app compares to the 7-Eleven app. Check it out here.)

Chris Gheysens, Wawa’s president and CEO promises that the company will be “adding additional surprises” for customers that will be available during the launch period.

Brian Schaller, Wawa’s vice president of fuel says: “This new card is a way for us to provide a new level of value and convenience to our customers who rely on us for their fuel purchases. The card can also be used inside Wawa stores for all food, beverage and merchandise purchases.”
