Reading Terminal to Open During Pope Visit

And it has extended hours.

After much debate, the Reading Terminal Market will remain open during the World Meeting of Families and visit from Pope Francis.

The market will keep its normal hours of 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Sept. 21-24 (Mon.-Thurs.) and remain open an hour later on Sept. 25 and 26 (Fri. and Sat.). It opens an hour earlier than normal on Sunday Sept. 27, but closes two hours earlier than normal.

The decision comes after much discussion about how to get employees and merchandise into secure areas.

Anuj Gupta, general manager of Reading Terminal Market said in a statement that: “This is an historic occasion for the City of Philadelphia and we are proud to showcase one of the best attractions our city has to offer to the tens of thousands who will be here for this international event.”

Here are the hours for Pope week:

  • September 21-24 (Mon.-Thurs.): 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.

  • September 26 (Sat.): 8 a.m. – 7 p.m.
