We Heart Fabric Row
First Fridays? So last year. Our favorite day is quickly becoming the last Friday of the month, when the fab shop owners on the quirky stretch between Bainbridge and Catharine celebrate 4th on 4th, during which they stay open late, serve munchies and drinks, and prove that there’s more to Fabric Row than bolts of cloth. (Hint: Participating shops hang a red balloon outside their storefront.) Here are just a few reasons to change your plans for tomorrow night:
GO: Behind Closed Doors
WHEN: 6-8:30p.m.
WHY: Owner Catherine Cifonelli will show you all her just-arrived things for spring, including Scalamandre’s new spring fabrics, oodles of luxe trimmings and tassels, and the dazzling paint colors of Pratt & Lambert and Ralph Lauren’s new lines — all while you sip cocktails.
GO: Bus Stop
WHEN: 5:30-8:30 p.m.
WHY: While DJ Under spins funky beats, you’ll get the chance to talk shoes with one of our favorite Brits, Dan Sullivan, owner and designer of the fabulously cheeky English footwear company Irregular Choice. Be one of the first to get there, and you’ll receive “goodies” from IC (we can only hope it’s a pair of to-die-for shoes).
GO: Essene Market & Café
WHEN: 6-8:30 p.m.
WHY: You’ll mingle with supertalented local artist Carol Renee Royer, whose work is displayed in Essene’s café area. Grab some refreshments, admire her oil on canvas paintings, and — who knows? — maybe even take one home to adorn your own walls.
GO: Salon on 4th
WHEN: 6-8 p.m.
WHY: Nibble on snacks in this decidedly unstuffy salon, and discuss your locks with one of five stylists — they’ll give you professional advice without the pressure of going under the scissors.
GO: Revelations
WHEN: 6-8 p.m.
WHY: At Michelle Knezovich’s boutique, you’ll get to meet Marianne Cotreras, the local gal behind Studio Mimi’s covetable, botanical-inspired jewelry. Sip beer or wine at one of the outdoor tables, or peruse the racks of Industry, Umsteigen, Free People and Nibus (and save up to 70 percent off on winter wear!).
