So Does Dykstra’s Inclusion Really Mean Anything?

1197576006Officially, former Phillies center fielder Lenny Dykstra was mentioned in the mostly boring and underwhelming Mitchell Report tome. However, the report references the same story that’s been pretty much common knowledge to any baseball fan around here for years: That Lee Thomas had suspicions that he was using, that he bulked up in the early ’90s thanks to the aid of neat little “vitamins,” that Jeff Cooper may or may not have seen someone from that club that could very well possibly be Dykstra juicing, and that Dykstra inquired about purchasing steroids from the Mets’ personnel guy.

Yet there’s no blockbuster detailed description of when The Dude started using, stopped using or anything beyond the circumstantial evidence that was put there beforehand. So, essentially, we’re left with the same assumptions that we started with about Dykstra.

Even if it was revealed that the ringleader of the beloved ‘93 team was sticking needles into every part of his body, does it really tarnish his image? Think of the animals on that team and all of the rumored drinking, drugging, fighting and whoring they did. Probably the most damaging news about anyone from that team would be the revelation that they didn’t do anything illegal.

So, hopefully we’ll be speaking with Lenny Dykstra tonight — about his new magazine venture — and have him colorfully deny all of these reports as he did with us yesterday: “I don’t know anything about the report you’re talking about,” he said. And “I stay away from the drama … the drama, man, drama.”

Oh, and he said “fuck” and “dude” a lot. It’s probably safe to assume he’s getting a few more calls than usual right now, however. So we’ll see.

Dykstra Supposedly Mitchell-Reported

1197569133Yow. Shocker. The Metro’s Metropolis blog revealed that former Phillies outfielder Lenny Dykstra popped up on some sort of non-Major League Baseball approved list that’s being heavily circulated in newsrooms across the country. The full list will be revealed at 2 p.m.

Other Phils mentioned on what could very well be a fake list? Third basemen Abraham Nunez and David Bell. Why the hell couldn’t Wes Helms be on there?
