The 8:30 Report: What Philly’s Talking About
Mumia not dead yet: The 3rd Circuit Court ruled that the 53-year-old convicted cop killer should be sentenced to life imprisonment — or get a chance with a new Philadelphia jury to decide his fate. Obviously, both Mumia and supporters had their say about this ruling. Most notably, D.A. Lynne Abraham had these kind words: “He is nothing short of an assassin.” [Inquirer]
Bob Casey for Obama: Today in Pittsburgh, Sen. Bob Casey will come out and endorse Barack Obama for president. Casey says part of his decision comes from his four daughters, all Obama supporters, who have convinced him that the young senator from Illinois speaks to a new generation. [Inquirer]
New soccer team sells 3,800 season tickets: Pretty amazing considering that’s 18 percent of the stadium’s capacity and that the team won’t be playing for two years. The Sons of Ben are not messing around. [Inquirer]
Walt Whitman finally reopened: For three hours during evening rush hour, the Walt Whitman Bridge was closed in both directions as police had a stan-off with a man wielding a toy gun, a bat, and his family in their white Escalade. He eventually surrendered peacefully, but not before making yesterday’s drive home hellish for thousands of South Jersey-ians. [NBC 10]
