The Sixers Deep-Six A.I. Tribute

Allen IversonThe Philadelphia 76ers are pulling a card out of the Eagles’ hat when it comes to honoring ex-player accomplishments: They won’t.

Sixers chairman Ed Snider has decided not to lay it on for current Denver Nuggets guard Allen Iverson tonight when A.I. returns to Philly for the first time since being traded 15 months ago. There will no video montage or special speeches, only the typical pre-game announcement of opposing players.

Snider, arguing that Iverson has plenty of time for nostalgia-fests after his career is over, is leaving it up to the fans in attendance to show the former NBA MVP some love. And show love they will. Many fans are appreciative of The Answer, once the face of the franchise and a representation of the grittiness, intensity and hard work that this city is known for. Of course, others felt that A.I. held the organization back and postponed the current run that has been exciting the town for the past few weeks.

Whatever the case may be, expect to see Allen’s jersey in all its forms, posters scribbled with the word practice, a few kids in cornrows, and A.I.’s mom in the stands. It will truly be a time warp. — Ciara Todd
