Greater Philadelphia Film Office: Not More Than Meets the Eye?

Sharon PinkensonThe cape-crusading blog superherohype.com picked up a tidbit from Main Line Today about some upcoming film projects rumored to be based in Philadelphia the next couple years. On that list are the usuals — Shyamalan, Marley & Me — but the local fanboys are positively Optimus Priming in their pants over the possibility that the sequel to the Michael Bay robot smashup Transformers will be shot here.

The movie’s slated for a late June 2009 release, and already the native Transformer-heads are bursting with excitement on the SHH message board:

“HOLY CRAP SO EXCITED GO PHILLY!!!!!!!!!!!”

“Hell yea! i’m from philly and a huge transformers fan. I really hope they choose to film here. both because it’s good for philly and a good chance if they call for extras… yea!”

“If we’re not gonna get dinobots, give us gestalts please!! For the love of snapple!! Shooting in philly would be cool as hell, I’m really excited for this movie.”

Yeah, how ’bout those gestalts?

Thing is, not everyone’s as amped up about the possibility. One independent filmmaker didn’t hold back on his feelings about the Greater Philadelphia Film Office and its poofy-haired executive director, Sharon Pinkenson:

The Philadelphia film is office is full of liars. They only cater to big budget films. I’m a local indy film maker and I received little help from the film office. Any time they were involved they cost us money and slowed us down. Right now we are finding it nearly impossible to get that great tax break Pinkenson talks about. She’s a moron and the only way you get help from the Philly Film office is if your last name is Stallone of Shamalan. [sic]

The truth-soaked words of a struggling local artist or the jealous rage of an indie filmmaker upset he didn’t think to put robots in his movie?
